Check In

Page history last edited by Dennis Van Arsdale 8 years, 1 month ago

Watch the screen carefully for popup notices!

If the popup says "On hold for...", PRINT out the hold slip, place in the book so the name shows at the top, REMOVE the security card from the pocket, and only then PUT it on the Hold shelf in name alphabetical order.

If another popup, READ carefully and ask for staff assistance if needed.

Regular Check In (checked out at Circulation Desk)

IF BOOKDROP ITEMS:

Click the Backdate button (by the Check-In Date) and change to the last day the library was open before checking bookdrop items in.

IF THE PATRON wants a receipt for materials returned, they must tell you IN ADVANCE of check in.

Procedure:

  1. Be sure Sierra is set to Check-In (left column, the Check-In button is pressed).

  2. HOLD the card so the entire code has laser on it (move in and out SLOWLY if needed) under the laser scanner until it beeps.  (This is not a swipe device -- do not move it quickly.)

  3. CHECK for overdue fines and collect if possible from the patron.

  4. IF a receipt is desired, check the Print receipt box is checked.  (Normally we don't print one but it is possible.)
    1. When you close the record, the receipt should print.
    2. If the patron didn't give advance notice, offer to show them their patron record, and tell them they can also check it online for any obligations.

  5. REMOVE the security card from the pocket if there is one.

  6. PLACE items in current reshelving location:
    1. books on the upstairs (nonfiction) or downstairs (fiction, juvenile, AV) cart in call number order.
    2. Periodicals (latest) on the downstairs cart, bound/older issues on the upstairs cart.
    3. Reserves go back on the Reserves shelving at the earliest opportunity.
    4. Laptops go back in the laptop cabinet IN THE PROPER SLOT; power and network cables are connected.
    5. Mice go back in the laptop cabinet.
    6. Digital Cameras go back in the laptop cabinet and the USB cable is connected.
    7. Room Keys go back in 106 on the wall rack.

Count Use (Used but not checked out)

Procedure:

  1. Be sure Sierra is set to Count Use (left column, the Count Use button is pressed).

  2. For books and bound periodicals with barcodes: HOLD the item under the laser scanner until it beeps.

  3. For unbound periodicals without barcodes: USE the Rolodex to find a card for that periodical title and scan the barcode the laser scanner until it beeps.

  4. When done, you may change the button back to another function.

This shows use for items that have been used but not checked out of the building.
