Checklist

There is a clipboard with the checklist of regular tasks for students to do.  Each should be checked and initialed when done; in some cases, a task may need doing more than once a day.

Lost and Found

  • Lost items should be given to Dianne.

  • It helps a lot to know where and when the item was found, especially if more than one turns up (say, two flash drives are turned in -- people may remember where they sat, so that helps identify which one belongs to them (not everyone remembers exactly what their flash drive looked like, or both may be identical).

  • IF the item is valuable (wallet/billfold, cell phone/charger, tablet), PUT WITH A NOTE about where and when it was found (if known) and YOUR INITIALS in the top right drawer. Dianne needs all the information you have on it.

  • If Dianne is not here, and it's not valuable (papers, flash drives)  PUT a note on the item with where in the building and when it was found (if known), and YOUR INITIALS.  PUT both on Dianne's desk.  Dianne needs all the information you have on it.

  • Dianne will contact the patron if possible.

IF the patron comes in looking for an item, ask Dianne (if present) or a staff member to handle returning it.

Do NOT return items yourself (this is a legal protection for you!).

Password Reset Stations

Passwords are required to be reset at regular intervals dating from when first reset. Notices are sent out several times by email before a password expires.

2 public computers and one password reset station are on the first floor across from the print release station.

1 password reset station is inside the 24 Hour Zone.

The Library is not responsible for resetting, recovering, or providing passwords.

Equipment Out of Order

When a printer, copier or other equipment is out of order:

  1. Immediately report it, with the "LI" number, to a staff member.
  2. The staff member will investigate and report as needed.
    1. The staff member will decide about putting a sign on the equipment.

Printing

  • ONLY our student workers and staff handle adding paper and fixing jams.

  • NO TRANSPARENCIES ARE ALLOWED.  The wrong kind melt and ruin the copier.

  • Out of Toner and other messages on the display are reported to staff.

  • Students have funds for printing put on their Lions I.D. cards at the start of each semester ($10, nonrefundable, good for that semester only).  Print release stations will use that money first, if available.

  • When that money is used up, students will need to add their own funds to their card.  The black PHIL station to do that is in the 24 Hour Zone and accepts cash or credit cards; it can also be done online using LionsCash (under Student & Campus Life tab on the campus home page).

  • Public patrons (not currently registered or working on campus) can be referred to a staff member.
    • One or two pages can be paid by a staff member.
    • Larger amounts will require
      • purchasing an empty card [staff member required to assist going into Zone] and
      • putting money on the card.  Card funds are not controlled by the library.

  • The Library staff wiki shows any equipment with problems.  Send patrons to alternate stations if one is out of order.

  • All the print release stations in the library are on the same system; if one is out of order, the others can show and print as well.

  • Printing is 10 cents for black & white single-sided, 15 cents for double-sided, 50 cents for colored, per page.

Photocopying

  • Copiers are by print release stations on first and second floors, but NOT in the 24 Hour Zone.
  • No charge for use of the copiers, BUT:
    • copyright restrictions must be observed (no more than one chapter per book, for example)
    • public patrons are requested to limit to 10 pages maximum
  • 8 1/2 x 11" paper only available
  • NO transparencies or other paper are permitted for use, even if patron provides it (ESPECIALLY if patron does).
    • Transparencies not created for the heat of copiers can melt around the drum, requiring expensive repairs.

Faxing

The Library staff can fax for students to local phone numbers as time permits, and receive for students if necessary.

The fax procedure for local numbers is on the N: drive: N:\Shared\Library\Documentation - Reports\Procedures\Fax Server Quick Reference Sheet.doc. Before trying to send a fax this way, ask the student to verify that the number is a local one.

As the procedure for faxing materials through our system ONLY applies to local phone numbers (Sebastian and Crawford Counties), it might be more helpful to refer students to online services (this is not an endorsement and terms may change).  For example:

    • Free with 5 pages maximum, 99 cents/per fax up to 10 pages, 20 cents/page each page after that.

    • free with no cover page ads, maximum 3 pages, 2 faxes per day
    • fee via Paypal, varied rates from 10 pages and up, priority delivery

    • free with ad on the cover page, maximum 3 pages + cover page and 5 faxes per day
    • fee version is $1.99 using Paypal, maximum 25 pages + ad-free cover page, priority delivery

Reporting Problems

It is the student workers responsibility to report problems such as misbehavior, damage, and noise to a staff member.

The staff member will handle the matter from there.  If after staff hours, call campus police cell 462-5069.

In the event of a medical, weather, or other emergency, refer to a staff member or after staff hours, call campus police.
