How Your Schedule Is Created

Each semester, you will fill out a form with your classes, outside job times, and other commitments -- just X out the times you can NOT work, out of the hours that the Library is open.

You are responsible for letting the Access Services Librarian know about any changes to this information as soon as possible, even if it is for times you are not currently scheduled for (since other events might make it necessary to change your schedule here).

You are expected to work to the end of the semester or until your maximum number of hours are completed, including during Finals Week, on this schedule.  If you need to make changes during the semester, please notify the Access Services Librarian as soon as you definitely know the times.

Every practical effort will be made to accommodate your other commitments, but blocking out too much or the wrong times may limit the amount of hours you can be assigned to work.

Hours of Operation

The Library is open most of the year except for periods when the campus is closed.

The Library is closed for recognized holidays, between Dec. 24 - Jan. 1, and for announced closings on occasion, such as bad weather or special events.

The Library IS open on some days during the semester when there are no classes including much of Spring Break, as well as between semesters ("interim" or "intersession").  A smaller number of students will be scheduled for those times.

If the campus is closed for bad weather, the Library is closed as well -- those times you don't need to call in.

Absences

If you cannot come to work or will be late to work, you are expected to notify the Access Services Librarian or available regular staff as soon as possible before the start of your work period.

Someone else will need as much notice as possible in order to come in your place; please give everyone as much notice as possible.  We are open even if you cannot be here, and we need people present to work.

Failing to give notice that you will be absent for any reason is grounds for termination of employment.

Making Up Hours

Hours missed due to emergencies or illness may be made up at the discretion of the Access Services Librarian as the schedule permits, but there are no guarantees. Hours missed for other reasons will not be rescheduled.

Quitting

There are any number of good reasons why you might have to leave a job.  That is understood by most employers.

Giving notice as far in advance as possible is a reasonable and proper courtesy you should give any employer, and it makes it easier to give you a good reference for other potential employers.
